Resident Services in the Southeast

Mercy Housing improves communities through providing service enriched affordable housing. We not only focus on the development of affordable housing, but also connecting residents to wrap-around services that ensure residents are stably housed and able to thrive in their homes. We provide a tailored mix of on-site support programs whose goal is to reduce barriers, support residents in maintaining their housing, and increase economic mobility. Our position is to meet our residents where they live and support them on their journey to achieve self-sufficiency.

Economic Stability and Mobility

Recognizing the need to increase economic mobility for the vast majority of our low-income families, Mercy Housing Southeast provides GED preparation, job skills training and other financial management supports. The program features GED preparatory courses and testing facilitation, vocational training outreach, financial literacy counseling, one-on-one employment coaching, resume writing and job placement assistance, along with resources and support for accessing affordable childcare.

Youth Academic Enrichment

Mercy Housing Southeast places strong emphasis on improving educational outcomes for our resident populations. Out-of-School Time (OST) activities help low-income children keep pace in school, reduce school dropout and problem behavior, while promoting physical and emotional well-being, accountability, leadership skills, and community engagement in a safe, structured environment. OST engages kids from pre-K to age 18 with year-round programming after school, on weekends, and over the summer for approximately 15-20 hours per week. The availability of OST also allows more time for parents, who face many time and resource challenges, to become more active in the workforce.

Health and Wellness

Cultivating Healthy Communities helps vulnerable families and seniors improve their overall health by increasing access to healthy foods, teaching healthy behaviors, and leveraging partnerships with health care providers. By addressing nutritional needs and unhealthy habits among residents, our programs serve as an important safety net for households and strengthen their ability to make good dietary choices within a limited budget.
Components of the program include:

  • Community Gardens
  • Healthy Cooking Demonstrations
  • Food Boxes and Food Delivery: Through a partnership with Peach State Health Plan, we provide weekly delivery of fresh fruits and vegetables at our properties in Georgia to assure the continuous availability of healthy food options for all residents.
