Community Matters Newsletter – Fall 2012

2012-09-13 20.13.29-1With over 350 individuals in attendance, Mercy Housing Northwest’s (MHNW) 2012 Power of Home breakfast set a new standard for both attendance and dollars raised. The event raised more than $125,000 to support MHNW’s resident services programs in Washington State.

Attendees heard from Washington House Speaker Frank Chopp, who congratulated MHNW on its record of achievement and praised the organization for “getting things done, building trust and staying on message.”

ReneeThe event also featured a new video created by MHNW youth residents in partnership with Reel Grrls, a Seattle-
based nonprofit. This year’s film focused on “The Power of Home” and marks the third collaborative project with Reel Grrls. Resident speaker Renee Jones told a powerful story of how the stable housing and support services offered by MHNW helped her turn her life around – from a young mother escaping domestic violence to the commencement speaker at her college graduation.

The breakfast celebrated MHNW’s 20th anniversary and honored the organization’s five founding religious communities. The 35 sisters in attendance received a standing ovation from the audience.
Thanks to the generous support of the following sponsors, all proceeds from the event go directly to support MHNW’s many resident services programs.
