100% Graduation Rate in Washington

Sterling Meadows Apartments opened in February 2002 and currently serves 50 agricultural workers and their families — all of whom earn 45% or less of the area median income. A supplemental year-round academic program called Homework Club has had prolific results — for 5 straight years they had a 100% high-school graduation rate — that’s 38 students, with 27 of them going to college. The program began with the property’s inception and has seen continued growth and success. Two students were recipients of the EPIC Educational Support Grant, rewarding academic success with $2,000 toward their higher education costs.

AmeriCorps volunteers and students working on their master’s degrees from Western Washington University (WWU) help bridge the gap between home and school at Mercy Housing Northwest. They tutor and meet with students four days a week, visiting them in school, after class, and perform weekly grade checkups to ensure that students are excelling.
